Malaysian driftwood done leeching tannins?

A few months ago I bought 2 pieces of malaysian driftwood to throw in my 30 gallon tank. I didn't boil them, but I placed them in very hot water (continuously) for a few days. I then put them in my tank where they continued to leech the tannins, and staining my water- not a big deal because I kept up with the water changes.

The color on the driftwood has just started to change- turning into a more faded color of what it was originally. Is this a sign that the tannins will start to leech out less and less?

Also, I assume they are, but are high levels of tannins in the water a bad thing? I know they lower the PH, but other than that?...

Sounds like they are about to quit leeching. And no high level of tannins don't hurt anything, lots of fish prefer it and make their colors stand out more. Also it don't lower the ph that much.

Is THAT why my Manzanita wood went pale? Tannens were done?? Cool, I thought the snails nommed the bark off!
