I am wanting to get back in to keeping a freshwater aquarium. So..... What all types of tanks does everyone have? I am going to be starting from a blank slate this time so I am looking for idea for everything from tanks and equipment to fish and plants. I do know that I want a "small" tank, say under 40gal or so, but other than that.....I can't make up my mind. There are just too many choices.

my 30 gallon planted community tank that I have now is by far the easiest to take care of tank I've ever had
fast growing live plants eat up excess nitrates and keep the water parameters stable, and a crew of cleaners (snails, SAE's, and shrimp) keep everything looking nice take a look at the link in my signature for details. I plan on rescaping it again soon, so pay no attention to the layout in the latest pics ![]() |

I focus on species conservation.I
currently have a 25 and a 29,planted with live plants and housing Betta Macrostomas.I have a five gallon, also planted housing a single Betta Albimarginata, and then I have a single pair of Betta Mahachai.I will be fixing up a ten gallon for the pair, planted well.I currently have canister filters running, which in my opinion are the best.Easy to maintain outside the tanks. Basically if you want to go small, the best way to keep your water nice is with live plants. But really it depends on what types of fish you want and your goals with said fish.

I have a cascade 1500 canister filter right now. I am just wondering if it would be too much flow in a smaller tank. its rated at 350 gph
or on the other hand, what type of FW fish prefer a fast moving tank

depends on how fast.If its possible to adjust the flow, most anything will be ok with it.I have two eheims and the flow is halfway up.The flow is good but not extreme
