Default Leak in tank

My tank (55 gallon long) sprung a leak. i have my fish in an aprox. 12 gallon plastic storage tote with filter, air, a few handfulls of gravel, my live plant, and 2 fake plants, all from the 55g. I drained the tank, removed the gravel, and plan on re-doing the seals in the morning and letting them set up for at least a day. I am planning on using GE silicon II to seal the seams as i've seen it recommended on here and elsewhere before. If any one has any suggestions or warnings, please speak up, i'd love all the advice i can get.

Make sure the tank is good and clean. You also have to remove what silicone that is where the leak is, is removed as it won't get a good seal just putting new over the old.

Thank you, and yes i know, the leak happened last week as we were walking out the door for vacation so i was able to lower the water level caulk over the bad section. it didnt fix it but it did allow for me to keep the water at a much higher level for the time being. now that we are home and i have time, i did as stated and we are redoing the entire seam, we cut out the old caulk. cleaned inside the seam, and prepared for new caulk.

I would also scrape where the old was to ensure theres no residue left over.

i did scrape with a glass scrapper (the razor kind for glass top stoves) and inside the joint with a normal razor. used alcohol pads to wipe away all residues, hair dryer to dry glass, taped out seam and ran a thick bead of caulk and smeared it to a nice taper.

5 fish have died since the tank sprung a leak... My water quality is better than ever, O ammonia, 20 nitrate, o nitrite 75 GH, 40 KH, 6.2 PH.

I have no idea why these fish have suddenly died, 2 tiger barbs, a black skirt tetra, bala shark, and a goldfish.

Check your sealant to make sure there wasn't any mold inhibitors in it.

they're not back in the tank yet. they all died in the plastic tote. I scrubbed it with warm water before hand and rinsed the hell out of it.

Sounds like the problem was room and something was in the tote that shouldn't have been.

Ok, i set up a little experiment/trap to make sure its not my cats but im almost 100% sure its not them. I have water and decorations back in the tank, just waiting for water to clear up and such. i added conditioner and clairifier, after i put the filter back on the tank i'll add a little splash of bacteria as well.
