I have had my jager heater for about 9 months and I decided to turn it up a notch for the winter months.
Now it reads 83 degrees when its set for 77-78 . I try to lower it and it still reads the same. what should I do to correct this? I heard of calibration but its not new. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

No experience with that heater.
When you say it reads 83 when set for 77-78, what specifically reads 83? Are you keeping in mind that the tank water may take up to a day to adjust/change to the new temp? Also when you are trying to lower the tempature, keep in my the heat in the room of the aquarium may help keeping it warm. I have issue with my heaters too. Tank is at 80 degrees no matter how low i turn the knob. I am purchasing new heaters.

Heaters don't always run at the temperature they are set on, that's why you need a separate thermometer in your tank. If it's not changing temp when you turn it down could it be stuck on? In my experience when heaters break they usually get stuck either on or off.

As long as it is turning on and off correctly it doesn't matter that it is not running at the temperature that it says, I've never had a heater that does. You need a separate thermometer in the tank and then you adjust the heater according to what it says.

The dial is just to get you ball park and not a good indicator of whether your heater is working right. I used to have that brand of heater. Adjust and watch your thermometer and keep adjusting until the water is where you want it. I have some that are set to 76-77 on the dial, but keep my tank at 81.

I have the jäger heater. Do you know you can spin the blue dial and also adjust the needle I dont know why they made it that way or mine is broke but it is close to the reading In the tank but just tinkering with it to the right temp is probably better than buying a new one.

I will try the blue dial but today it seems on all the time and I put it down to 75 yesterday and its 84 today.
I have unplugged it to see if I can play with it beofre I buy a new one. For 6 monthss it was perfect until I raised it up a notch when I noticed it got a colder reading now that it winter. My old digital thermometer broke so I but the same one. I thought 78 was a good temp but is 81 better?

81 is just what I set up my Angel tank for. Not a suggestion.

You should choose a temperature that is suggested for the types of fish that you keep in the tank. It's often a compromise.
