Question inexpensive lighting options?

i really need a light for my tank, of course, but have already put $260 into my setup and i'm not even fully stocked yet, this kinda hurts the wallet as a high schooler. anyways, what are cheaper lighting options/setups you guys know about? preferably under $40, and i have a 29g (30") tank. thanks for any info guys!

Good morning n...

If you keep to low light plants, then you can get lighting at the local hardware store for a few dollars.

I keep low light plants and use GE Aquarium Plant bulbs. For a 29 G you can get a 6500 K, 20 watt, T12 bulb for about $10.00 and it will last close to a year before you need to replace it.

This is considered low light, so you'll need to keep low light plants. I have Java fern, Anubias, Cryptocoryne, some of the tall Amazon swords, Pennywort and Singapore moss. But, that's more than enough for a small tank.

I got a shop light at walmart for about 10 bucks and 2 GE aquarium bulbs for about 10 each also. TONS of light.

so guys, thanks for the advice, i took the advice from here and a guy on reddit (reddit.com/r/aquariums and reddit.com/r/fish are great places) and i got a clip-on desk lamp and a 50w halogen floodlight, it looks good. sometime in the future i may upgrade to 2 lamps, or just get a bigger strip light or something. but for now, this works!

Just make sure the light is in the right Kelvin range for plants or your plants will die.... sorry, just didn't see what kelvin the bulb is that you bought.
