Default Ick Battle: Won

I was struggling with high ammonia for a while and lost several fish from it. I finally got my ammonia down to safe levels according to my test kit, 0-.25ppm. BUT the stress left my fish vulnerable to an ick outbreak. My tetras, goldfish, and mollies all had white spots. The mollies got it the worst with clamped fins, and showed all the visible symptoms of dying from ick. The dalmation mollie did die, my black mollie is blind in one eye and is struggling. I treated the ick and raised water temp to 82F last monday. I dosed the tank per directions on the medication all week untill saturday. Saturday morning, i did a 20% WC using my gravel vac and dosed for the last time after re-filling the tank. I also added bacteria for the first time during this whole ordeal as a precaution to keep ammonia/water quality under control. MY ammonia is still safe. Today i began lowering water temp back to 75F. All visible signs/symptoms of ick are gone and have been gone since thursday night/friday morning.

My question is when is it safe to add more fish/replace the ones that i lost. I would obviously bring a water sample to the LFS to be tested before actually buying fish. Should i wait a while or pending overall water quality is it safe right away?

Do you know if your tank is cycled? If I were you, before adding any fish,I would quarantine the tank for about two weeks,to let the fish get better. Then I would also set up a smaller tank and do a two week quarantine for the new ones. You dont want any fish to add any more nasties to the tank.

Im very cautious though,lol.

When you do add more,do so slowly, one fish at a time, and I would allow a week between.

Also,if the goldfish is in there,I would pull it and place somewhere on its own. They will not like the higher temps as the tropicals. They are cold water fishes.

i thought he would struggle with the tank at 82F but believe it or not, he was hyperactive the whole time. but to be honest, i wouldn't exactly care if it died. My sister but it in there against my wishes while i was away. worst part, Fair Fish, i know the ick came from it. I didnt have a single sign or symptom for 3 weeks and she adds the goldfish, boom, ick out the wazzoo on my mollies and tetras

i tested my water. i bought a 5-in-1 test kit and i already had an ammonia test kit. the results:

Nitrate: 40ppm
Nitrite 10.0+ppm, the colour was darker than the darkest on the legend.
Hardness(GH) 75 ppm
Alkalinity(KH) 40ppm
pH 6.2
Ammonia .25 ppm

And my water is less than perfectly clear.

Any suggestions?
