Exclamation i think Frank made a new friend

when an algea eater follows a neon tetra around, does that mean they're friends?

It could be that they are just hanging out. I would keep an eye out though.... what kind of algae eater is it? (Some have been known to latch onto other fish and suck off the slime coating, which ends up killing the fish.) This problem can be avoided by making sure the algae eater has food. (Algae eaters need supplementary food along with algae. For example algae wafers or flakes, pellets or even blanched zucchini.) Some algae eaters are also territorial, so it may just be making sure the fish isn't going into is area.

Then I'd trade it in for something else... maybe a Bushy Nosed pleco or some Oto Cats - for Oto's you need at least 3 but they stay small and are very docile.

If he's trying to latch onto other fish, he's probably going to get even more aggressive and start killing them.

I agree with Holly. He will soon kill your fish,if he is allowed to latch onto them.

If you want to keep him,you may need to think of placing him in his own tank,or moving the neons.
