Default I need help with Fluorescent lighting

I just bought a 35 gallon tank that will be running freshwater. I will be growing Java Moss and thats it for live plants. I have a Fluorescent bulb 17w 8000K Aqueon bulb. This makes the tank look very vibrant and makes the colors stand out. Are these safe for the eyes? Do they give off UV rays? Any help would be much appreciated. This is for me and my daughter so I want it to be as safe as possible as she is very young.

Thank you

All fluorescent bulbs (of which your Aqueon 15 Watt T8 8000K bulb is a member of) emit a little UV and a little infrared, but the levels are so incremental that they mean nothing when compared to, say, natural sunlight. Your daughter will be perfectly fine, and so will your java moss.
