I bought this little tank ornament today at Petsmart and didn't notice until I got it home that it had the UPC sticker on the bottom!! grr... So of course I pulled it off, and of course it left all its adhesive on the ornament. I assume I need to remove this before putting it in the aquarium, no? And how? I know lots of ways to remove adhesive, but very few that are aquarium-safe. I have already tried scrubbing, peeling it off with duct tape, and both dry heat and hot water. Any help is welcome!!
Update - I got most of it off with tons of hot water and scrubbing; think that's good enough? Also, funny story: while I was at the store, I asked on the off chance that they sold ammonia (for fishless cycling), and the woman (who I hadn't seen working in the fish section before) was absolutely APPALLED at my plan - you would have thought I had told her I was going to feed cyanide to my fish - and *strongly* recommended that instead I simply use Safestart and put my fish in that very day... (I later found the needed ammonia at an Ace hardware) Last edited by Suzanne : 08-19-2011 at 06:28 PM. Reason: Update |

Glad you found the ammonia. I've done 2 fishless cycles... no fish have been affected by the use of straight ammonia for a fishless cycle,(so that lady is crazy!) Most LFS workers that I talk to look at me like I'm nuts when I tell them I do fishless cycles, and tell me to just use fish. (Well of course they say that - they want me to buy their fish and their 'Safe Start.') Just do a large PWC after the cycle is done (I usually do about 60%), to remove any possible by-products from the ammonia.
As for the adhesive..... since it's probably going to be buried in the gravel any way, and since you got most of it off, it's probably fine. But, if you're really worried, try hot water and vinegar. Just rinse it well after to get all the vinegar off.

LOL,some employees have no clue about fishless cycling.
A agree with Holly, try the hot water and vinegar.A scrubbie pad will help as well.
