Question How many can I get?

How many Puntius denisonii and Erpetoichthys calabaricus can I get for my 125gallon tank? It's 72" long x 18" Depth(wide) x 24" High. I plan on 16 Puntius denisonii and 8 Erpetoichthys calabaricus. Would this be ok in this size tank? Would I have to decrease the number of Erpetoichthys calabaricus to 4? Thank you for your time and suggestions!

Sorry, I like using scientific names. Puntius denisonii is Roseline shark and Erpetoichthys calabaricus is the Reedfish.

Stocking has a lot more to do with water changes than volume. Water quality is what stunts fish, allows 'over'stocking, etc. With enough water changes to keep the nitrate concentration under 20ppm before a water change you are not chemically overstocked. Then it is just an issue of physical space for the fish.

With enough water changes you could easily have a dozen roselines in there. I wouldn't want too many reedfish in my tank, so I would stick to two or three or so and leave room for other fish. I think a few fancy plecoes would be a good addition, some other bottom feeders like cories and/or loaches, and maybe some more fish for the main water column. I love spotted silver dollars. They have more colors than other species and only hit around 4".

Stocking has NOTHING to do with tank volume, it is all about water changes.

So, should I get, say, 16 Roselines, 4 Reedfish, ? kulii loaches, ? glass eels, ? Otocinclus and 12 hatchets? Plus, I really don't want silver dollars because I hear they eat plants and this is going to be a planted tank. Well, would my list above be a good combination? I'm not too sure on the glass eels, so I may not get those. What types of plants would go well in this type of tank? How many Otos, kuliis, and glass eels should I get? I also like pygmy cories and glass catfish. Would these go well with the others?

The reedfish will eat the coolie loaches, and possibly the glass eels depending on how large they are, ottos as well.
