Default How long for new sponge filter to get colonized?

I just downsized my 20gal to a 5gal a cpl weeks ago, I'm using a large sponge filter I had going in the 20. I have a smaller one that I want to switch to, so I just started it up in the middle of my established 90gal community tank (already has a canister going for its filtration), to let it get colonized. When should it be ready to be the filter for the 5gal? thanks!

20gal had 2 honey gouramis, 6 threadfin rainbows & a bristlenose pleco.. 5gal has 1 honey gourami & 3 threadfins, 1 small nerite snail.

Who can really say? I'd leave at least two weeks.
