Well I was exploring an aquarium store about an hour north of me and came across this crazy fish. The owners couldn't speak very good English and sold it to me as a "fresh water black _____" I couldn't understand him and I was in a hurry so I bought it for 5 bucks. Its a really unique fish and props itself up using his bottom fins. It also has a huge mouth and almost swallowed a dead cat fish whole.
I just need to know the species and if it is brackish or not. because I have it in a freshwater tank right now. Here's a picture of it hanging out with the gold gourami. The back fin also goes up and down when it swims kind of like a shark. ![]() |

I have no idea what that fish is, but PLEASE, research fish before you buy! What are you going to do if it's a brackish fish, or if it's aggressive and starts eating your other fish, or if it's going to get huge?

He'll die unless you put him in a brackish tank.... o_O
And, if they didn't speak very good English, I don't know if I'd trust them when they say it won't get very big... If anyone knows what this fish is, and if it will stay small and is indeed freshwater, please correct me.

Agree'd with Bev on the fins being hard to see.... are they always clamped like that? (That's not a good sign if they are.)

Glad you found out what he is.I would get a hydrometer and add a little salt to make him happy.Though he would fare ok in fresh its best to have him in a specific gravity of 1.03

Glad you found out what he is. I read they get around 3 to 3.5 inches, so that's not too bad at all. Does he need to be in a group? (Sorry, I don't know Gobys...)

Well from what I read they get aggressive with their own species but are pretty tame around my gouramis and molly. and hes not trying to eat my corys. So I think he will be okay by himself. hopefully!! |
