I am going on an 11 day vacation next month. I have about 3 weeks to figure this out. I have 3 tanks. 10g with betta, 20g hex w/ opaline gourami, and 29g with everyone else. On the large tank I have an auto feeder, but the other two I do not. Before when I left it was only was gone for a week so the smaller tanks weren't much of an issue. But 11 days is quite a while. My betta will not eat off of the gel food blocks and how do I feed the Opaline? I think he will eat off a food block, I will test it before I go, but that still leaves an issue of the betta. Should I try and put a tank separator into the large tank and leave a little water above the separator (like an inch of water over) and have the food "flow" on both sides of the separator? Would that even work? I would just plop her in the tank but she tends to kill my guppies due to the long fins. Too much thinking.. makes my brain hurt LOL

The betta will be ok for eleven days.Take the time now to fatten him up as if you were conditioning him for spawning.Give him two feedings a day,but smaller portions than the normal.Frozen foods would be good, and if you dont mind the sacrifice, place a couple ghost in before you leave. If gets hungry he will hunt them, lol.

Ghosts? Ghost shrimp?? had no idea she would eat those.
I just didn't want to come home to some dead fish, my son is quite sensitive (he has autism) and I don't want to deal with that lol...

Dittos on "They will be ok". Fatten em up, leave em, and it most likely will actually be good for them. In the wild, they have to go many days without food and they are designed for this as it is part of their life cycle. A good fast is good most things. I'll bet they appreciate you more when you get back! (Not really, that's beyond a fish brain, they're just hungry)

Thanks for asking this and for all who answered. I had to leave home for a funeral and was unable to make arrangements for my two betta fish. I'll only be gone 4 full days but I was really worried, I did 'fatten' them up with 3-4 pellets twice daily for a few days before I left. Sounds like I can relax about this and focus on my family. Thank you!

I agree with every one. They should be fine. (If the gourami's eat from the feeder block great and you're good to go with the auto feeder), but the Betta should be fine. Like every one has said, a little extra food leading up to before you go and she should be cool beans! I wouldn't put a divider in with a little water above the divider, 'cause bettas are jumpers and super escape artists....she may start on one side of the tank and be on the other when you get home, lol.
