Default Help me choose a filter :)

Hey all!

So I am chomping at the bit to start building on my 37 gallon tank (see my thread My super slow 37 gallon build )

I am torn as to whether or not I should hold out and get a nice Canister filter, or just go the cheap route, as in a HOB or something like a jebao canister for silly cheap..

What does everyone think?

personally i would hold out for a good one i am a firm believer of you get what you pay for(i found that out the hard way the first time i set up a tank). and if you know its going to be a super slow build whats a couple more days/weeks to get something that you know is going to last and do a good job

Go with a good cannister. It will work SO much better and reduce your workload as it does not need nearly as much maintenance. Get a bio-ring pad, a coarse pad, a fine wool polisher pad and don't bother with any carbon.

I would put a canister on my 20g hex (I have them on my 60g and 55g) but I don't think my big Angels would like that much water flow. If I could figure out a way that my two 10g's could share one cannister, I'd do that I think.

Oh, and btw, I understand how it feels to have a big, empty tank in you den. It drove me CRAZY. I kept telling my wife I was going to go slow, make things right, get everything together, do a perfect cycle. A day later, I'd have to tell her I was going to go slow, make things right, etc. Next day, tell her...... I managed it but that feeling is like a craving.

I think thats what I am going to do, finally starting to see some better deals pop up on CL. I was getting discouraged for a moment, everyone selling full set ups at once.. and I dont have room for a 55+ tank

Search for canister filter on CL,or look to ebay, and even aquabid.Freecycle may turn out something as well as local papers. And place a request on here as well.I love my canisters and will never use a HOB again.
