Default Help! Annoying fibers in tank

Hey guys, a while back I bought some dwarf hair grass and the medium it came in looked kind of like fiberglass used for insulation, and I just ripped clumps off and scattered the grass across the bottom because it came all bunched up when I bought it. Well when I just recently moved I drained it most of the way and hauled it across town and of course the plants uprooted and went everywhere. It took me a couple days before I had time to really fix it so I left it alone with clumps of this fibrous material sitting on top of the substrate.

Now when I turn the lights on all I can see is what looks like millions of tiny hairs from the grass medium. At first I thought it might be planaria but they don't move, are all straight and the same size, and my tank has great parameters and isn't overfed. There's 2 bio-wheel HOB filters running and I try to rinse the filters often to try and remove hairs, I have filter floss in them also to help. I've even wedged a fine meshed net in front of the filters outlet to try and catch hairs which seems to work somewhat however still hairs every morning. Anyone else had this problem or have any other ideas on removing the hairs?

The rock wool should have been removed prior to planting, now your seeing what it does when it isn't. I imagine the only way to get rid of it would be to remove your plants and everything, rinse them off and remove any of it on top of the substrate and do a rather large water change.

If you have fish in the tank I would advise you to remove them during this process. Rock wool is basically fiber glass and the fibers floating around can irritate the fishes gills.
