I have one female Guppy in my 10g right now, water conditions are all good with the tank 1/4 planted (still trying to grow Java Fern) and heated/filtered with a rock for hiding places.
Can a honey-set or any 4 inch gourami go with 4 female guppies? If i cannot, what is a fish besides platies that i can add with 3 female guppies if a gourami won't do well with guppies? I've also heard about this dominance that happens to the female guppies which they will fight in order to have a male guppy around (something like that) how long will it stop and will it be fatal? Thank you ![]() And can i also add 1 more female Guppy if there is enough room? P.S. one last thing, there are these plant bulbs from walmart that can be planted in aquariums, will those be safe? Walmart.com: Sea-Life Plants Live Aponogeton Aquarium Bulbs, 1ct: Fish Thank you again. :D |

Just get one Dwarf Gourami. The 4" ones are too big for a ten gallon.

If by Honey-set gourami you mean the Honey Gourami (which only gets 3 inches MAX and is a type of dwarf gourami), it all depends on the fish.... I have 1 male honey and 3 female honey's and they don't bother with my Otos, frogs, chilies, shrimp, snails or cardinals. Make sure your 1 guppy isn't a nipper, or it may nip the gourami's feelers off.
I really wouldn't put a 4 inch gourami in a 10g tank... there's not a lot of room for it. Gourami's also like densely planted tanks, both to hide in and to provide a bit of shade from the light. If you go with female Honey gouramis (only about 2.5 - 3 inches) then I'm thinking you should be ok....what's your filtration like? (Do you have extra filtration?) 2 would probably be fine plus your 1 guppy, if you have over the recommended amount of filtration, but don't put anything else in there except for lots of plants! The plants will keep the fish happy and also help use up ammonia and nitrates. The extra filtration will also help if you've got 2 bigger fish (gouramis - 3 inches max each approx.) plus the 1 guppy. You will still have to do weekly partial water changes though. (Don't add more guppies if you are getting 2 honeys). If you decide to get 3 or 4 guppies, then just do 1 honey gourami, but again, make sure the guppies aren't nippers or they will destroy the gourami's feelers.

For what it's worth, I seem to have a compatibility issue between my dwarf gourami and any guppies (male or female) that I put in my tank. As in, he stresses them to death.
Not saying this will necessarily happen to you, just a warning that it's possible. |
