I added 2 albino cory's to my tank a few days ago and the guy sent a bag of little green algae wafers home with me to feed them. I think there must be something better out there than these things. I see them mouthing them but I think they are too hard to get a bite of and it takes forever for them to dissolve. When they do dissolve, they leave a mess in the gravel.
Is there a much better food out there I can get for these guys ? They work on these wafers for awhile but then scurry off elsewhere looking like they're hungry and searching for something easier to eat. |

I've read that they like shrimp pellets, but hikari sinking wafers are apparently a big favorite (moreso than algae wafers and shrimp pellets)

I'll try some of the shrimp pellets and had also heard something about frozen bloodworms..... The Hikari sinking wafers look like what I've got already, different brand though, and they are just a disaster of a mess when they finally do dissolve down.

Yum Yum algae flakes...lol
I use to have a breeding colony of salt and pepper corys and they love brine shrimp it will also help plump them up, in fact if you have the space in the tank grab another 4 bronze or albino and if you feed them well you will probably see eggs stuck to the side of the tank in a few months. Corys come from the Amazon lakes and are surrounded by algae growth and water insects. The algae wafers are good for them as it will give them the required nutrients they require as bottom feeders and Bottom feeder usually get the short end of the stick as they are supposed to help clean the tank and they do but wouldn't you rather have a BBq burger from a Steak house rather than a McCrappy one? ... they will eat anything really but throw in some wafers at night after there tank feeding. Any frozen live food is best. To keep fish healthy and breeding is to vary their diet and give em the dry food earlier in the day and the stuff they jones for at night...thenlay down some wafers if you have other Amazonian fish in the tank they will usually gobble it up as well. Regardless of what people say Fish have personalities. Corys, Rams,Apistos,Angels and even Discus have shoaling habitry where there is a pecking order. Protein is what sustains, grows and colours your fish. all the best ![]() ![]() |

Corise are NOT algae eaters, so make sure they aren't just eating algae-based food. There are some nice bottomfeeder foods out there, get some of those.

When I feed my cories sinking wafers, I break them into quarters and put them in a small cup of water for a couple minutes. They seem to eat more when they're pre-softened (the other fish will eat the food for the cories )

Well as usual with my limited source for fish and supplies, I bought a jar of sinking shrimp pellets and the cory's attacked them immediately. Also bought the others some dried bloodworms and the other little fish just thought it was Christmas all over again......

I have 4 cory's in my 55 gal, I have the same problem with the wafers, they dont get eaten, & foul the tank making a mess. They just don't seem interested. Or, sometimes the other fish get to the wafer as it dissolves leaving nothing for the cory's. Think I might try some shrimp pellets- if the other fish would leave them alone
