Default Guess I was lucky

Guess I was lucky. We just got back from a 2 week vacation last Saturday. While we were gone my neighbor was to feed the fish once a day but besides that he knows nothing about aquariums. I know my tank is over stocked and with out artificial support the fish would be in trouble. So just in case the hang on power filter failed I hung a 8 inch bubble wand in the tank just to be sure. When we got back from vacation both the power filter and wand were still working but get this. The temperature in the tank was 88 degrees F. The fish appear no worse for it but if both the power filter and wand were not working it might have been a different story. Next year we will leave the AC on.

lol,I agree with beasl here.

Just curious, what type of fish are you keeping?I know my fish are happy at up to 90 degrees, without filtration or airstones.

In a 55 gal I have: 1 large Angel, 1 11” Pleco, 1 bushy nose Pleco, 1 Cory, 2 Oto, 7 large blue Gourami, 10 Redeye Tetra, 15 Black Tetra, 20 Rasbora, and 4 Giant Danio.

I always thought that 80 degrees F was the upper safe limit for most tropical fish because of the reduced oxygen level.

With that many fish in the tank it may be more of an issue. You must have a good maintenance schedule if you are keeping them healthy but in my humble opinion you are asking for a crash sooner or later. Do you have any plans to thin out the bioload?

I've had near that many for a lot of years and never have had a problem. It was only when I joined this forum that I found out I was pushing my luck. That's why I added the bubble wand this year before I went on vacation.

As to thinning out the load, yes and no. I've had Blue Gourami for many years and I really like them but am getting tired of their going crazy sometimes when people walk by. I wanted to find out if Giant Danios were suitable for my tank as a replacement for the Gourami and that's why I have both in the tank for now. I'll probably add a couple more once the Gourami are gone.
