Default Great new lighting for my 55G!!!!!!

Yesterday I recieved my dual bulb T5 fixture from Aquatraders and love it!
Even though I have a freshwater tank it is using the 10K daylight and the Actinic which of course does nothing for the plants but makes it look very very nice. I kept the dual LED strips that came with the 55G Marineland kit as they were actually helping the plants. Everyone said they were too dim but the plants are doubled in size in a month from just the LEDS. I started adding the API Co2 dosing as well. No other C02 for now. I just love this fixture and for $ 60??? Its perfect. I have the blue LEDS that I can turn on for night lighting from the LED sets I had so didnt need them on the strip. In my pictures you can see a shot of the glass top with the light strip as well as the two LED fixtures up front on the lid part that I just lift off when feeding etc. So the loaches are all coming out and feeding in the AM with the lights on as well as of course the Betta who will eat anytime anywhere.

pics are here: Aquarium Gallery - Hooperman42 Gallery the duller light is when it was just the LEDS. There are also pics of our 20G Mystery snail and tetra tank with its T5's. Dont really care about plants in that one and using ATI Blue Plus with an ATI special that is 12K daylight with a hint of blue.

The Aqua Trader bulb kit came packaged perfect in perfect condition. Highly suggest this and save your money from the obviously overpriced named brands.

Well here's an update on the light fixture I purchased from aqua trader. I, unfortunately ignores the MANY MANY bad reviews I read on the Internet. I feel I was fairly wanted not to by from this company. Shortly after the unit arrived ( 2 days), the led night lights blew out. I wrote the company, and wouldn't you know it; there has been no reply. Oh by the way, the light came with no instructions on how to connect the mounting legs. I know my complaining won't help, however I thought I would share my experience like hundreds have done before me; so that others don't fall for the low price. There is that old saying, "you get what you pay for"; boy is it aprapo right about now. I paid $89.00 for a t5ho 3x 54 watts 6500 k plus four led light system.

Yes I've tried tge 650# and emailed about 5 times to no avail. I will begin calling every hour on the hour until I speak with someone and this is appropriately addressed. Thank you for the suggestions.

So sorry to hear this. Mine came in on time, packed perfect and has been flawless. Best $ 89 I have ever spent on the tank!

I would order again in a second. Keep us posted. I found communicaiton to be very good. Email them and keep calling. Again I could not be happier. I bought marine bulbs because I do not have planted tank even though it is freshwater and just ordered some ATI bulbs to get the combo I wanted but the bulbs are much improved that come with it than what many have said.

From my experience what you get is far more than what you pay for form these people. Give them a chance to make it right. I have had a bad Rolex and BMW in the past as well. So give them a chance.

The mouting legs could not be easier to mount. Mine are a bit long but I fixed that. Or you can cancell and drop $ 400 on another one elsewhere.

A 3 X 54W fixture is WAY too much light for that tank.

Really, you think this amount of light is too much for a 90 gallon planted freshwater tank? The website "aqua trader recommended this model for a freahwater planted tank.

For a 90g it will still be pushing it. If it's going to be a planted tank and if CO2 is not used the plants will be consumed in algae. This size tank would need pressurized CO2.

Wow, maybe I'll take out one of the bulbs. If I only use two, do you think that will suffice of will get produce algae also?

By the way thank you so much for the info.

2 bulbs would be better. May be able to go without CO2 if you closely control the lighting periods.

Ok, what's your suggestion for lighting time period? Luckily the fixture has three seperate controls for the lights. Since I will only be using two lights plus the led blue moon lights, I figure I can put one bulb on from 12 noon - 8 pm; and have the second bulb come on in conjunction from 1pm - 5 pm- and finally the led moon light on for show only from 8:00 pm to 12 mid night.

That may work with 2-bulbs only on for some of the period and not all.
