Default Getting frustrated! Can't find 55g hoods!

I need help, everyone. I have a 55g and I need JUST a hood for my tank. Apparently it's brilliant to sell strip lights alone but insane to offer just the hood. I have a strip light in perfect working order and I refuse to buy another just for the hood. This light was not used much and was bought new. Anyone know where I can find a hood? It's the missing piece for my tank. I would like the split opening, but the single one works too. Thanks in advance and sorry if this is the wrong place for this. I looked all over and had trouble deciding.

If you are worried about your lights I think I would just get a screen top

Screen Cover - 55 Gallon - 13 in. x 48 in. | Screen Covers | Reptile Cages, Terrariums & Accessories | Reptile - ThatPetPlace.com

Only reason I say this is because as far as I know hoods fit a certain style of bulb, so with strip lighting, I just have no idea how it would work.

Good luck to you on your hunt.

Also I know that is for a reptile, but I am sure it would work for fish.

Why not get glass canopies? They are easily attainable and look much better and set you up better if you plan to go planted one day.

Aquarium Hoods & Canopies: All-Glass Versa-Tops

Just be sure to measure if you go this way.

I just bought a Versa Top glass canopy for my 55g from drsfostersmith.com for $35. Cheapest I found for those. They work great. They have both the split ones and the single pieces. I have the split tank, so I went with those.

I've used glass tops before and hated them. I have an AC70 and don't want to start fighting with the plastic bit in the back. I ended up either sticking it in the attic or throwing it out. I had it for either a 10 or a 20 and ended up going out and getting a hood. I would also have to pay someone else to make the cover if I did go the DIY route. >__<

It is your choice on whether to use the back pieces. I use on a couple of my tanks. Doesn't hurt to leave it off though as long as you don't have any jumpers. IMO, the hood is too limiting on the light. If you wanted plants, it is likely that you'd never get there with a hood for the light. The link I posted above is a place where you can find hoods also.

I use a double glass one one my 55G since it has the cross bar. So it is really to tops with to lids that open. Its perfect allows me to cut the plastic sleeve in the back to install heater, two MArineland 350's etc. Cheap and perfect. This is what I have:
Model Marineland Perfecto 47433480
55/60 gal.
23" x 9 5/8", two sections from:
Perfecto Glass Canopies, Lighting & Power | PetSolutions
