Poor guy, I would like to rescue him but I only have a 29 gallon. If he is not a dwarf is 29 gallon big enough for him temporarily?

Should be fine to put him in, just be aware that they are somewhat territorial so he may attack some of your other fish if they are smaller.

Well I just talked to this lady and she actually has him in a 10 gallon and he ate all her other fish. Could it be due to the close quarters? I don't want to get him if he is going to snack on my community fish.

essentially yes. Basically he claimed the whole tank as his territory. This is because a regular sized gourami needs at least 20 gallons. In your 29 he should only claim a part of the tank as his. Any fish that intrude he still may go after however.

I've seen some people keep Dwarf Gouramis in 10 gallons. I personally wouldn't do it because they're territorial and a 10 gallon isn't that big. So like jbrown suggested, he probably claimed the whole tank. Gouramis are usually only aggressive towards their own species or like jbrown said, if another fish swims into their territory. I have a Honey Gourami in my 110 gallon and he didn't want this one female Cherry Barb swimming in his territory so he beat her up. He doesn't mind if the other seven Cherry Barbs swim in his territory though. It's always a guessing game. I think it's awesome you're willing to give him a better home.
