Hi guys,
So I just purchased a Fluval Electronic Heater (50 watt) for my 5 gallon Betta/Shrimp tank. I chose to go with the more expensive heater being that I may plan to upgrade to a 10 gallon soon and just wanted a really good heater. However, I'm honestly not very impressed. I set-up the heater last night and I wake-up this morning to find it 3 degrees below the set-temp; and I've been up for 4 hours now and it's gone up one degree. Has anyone had any problems with these heaters? I just feel like I paid a good amount for it, it's taking up a good amount of space in my 5-gallon, and it can't keep it at the set-temp for a small amount of water? Thanks in advance. |

Did you turn on the heater as soon as you put it into the tank? The heater needs some time to acclimate it's current inside temperature to the water outside, otherwise it can be a little off. Give it another 1-2 days, and it should be fine.

I placed the heater in the tank for about 2-3 hours yesterday evening before turning it on. The instructions said it only need 20 minutes to acclimate to the water. Are heaters intended to keep water temp. at a precise, consistent temperature or are they meant to keep it within 1-2 degrees of the set- temp?

I have found most heaters will be off a couple of degrees. It also should raise the temp of the tank slowly so give it about 2 or 3 days to even out then you can tell how much difference it is.
