Default Fishing The Thai Way : Part 3

Hi All,

My friend Si Chun is at it again with his electrode sticks...but this time he also threw something in the water before hand...at the time I was not sure what it was...they where small soft pebbles...I have learnt since that once they where soaked and reacted with the water they turned into a gas which then suffocated the fish.

1. Si Chun surveys the water.

2. Whats that he has in is hand and is throwing into the water I asked myself.

3. Si Chun shows me.

4. It was dusk and the light was fading quickly...armed with a headlamp and his electrodes Si Chun heads for the water.

5. Si Chun waist deep

6. Light is starting to fade

7. Nearly time to go home and check the spoils of the night

8. Not bad for an hours fishing

9. Pick of the bunch...

10. A nice Snakehead

Regards

Jeff & Wan

Hopefully, not Betta filet on a bed of rice, electrified. ;-)

People in other places and other priorities, well, I am not in their shoes. A poor man will do whatever he has to do to put food on the table, much less, medical care for his children.

Send us more pics and stories.

So do they just eat the itty bitty ones whole?. I have heard that Mbuna is considered a delicacy by the locals around Lake Malawi in Africa. Guess if worst comes to worse I got enough fish to last us about one meal. There's five of us.

It is very interesting to see how other societies survive, even in this small way. Any more updates you have will be appreciated.

Hi All,

The bigger fish they tend to just gut, detail and behead and either fry or barbi...If they get a decent sized snakehead they will chop the head in two and also fry/barbi this also......never tried it and don't think I will..LOL....the small ones they usually will shot into a bowl then batter them and shot maybe a dozen in a frying pan and make like a fishcake...I have tried this and they are not too bad...It's crazy other here at the end of the rainy season...every where gets floooded and every thaiman and his dog are out hunting fish....as mentioned in my introduction we have 2 lakes either side of us...ours and the village lake...and every year we get flooded...fish everywhere...i'll be on my computor and there will be fish swimming around my feet and thats in our living room LOL.

I have many stories and many pics so watch this space as they say...problem is most of my pics are on me big computor and when we were flooded last year I think damp got into it and there was a flash and a bang from the back..so not sure what has blown..If i switch it on the power comes on but for some reason my monitor won't work so not sure whats blown...gonna have to take it to a shop...hard drive is partitoned so hopefully I havnt lost me pics...same thing happened 4 years ago and i lost 2 years of photos was well and trully gutted.

Most likely graphic card or onboard graphic circuits. If the later, it's a new mother board as no one fixes mother boards that I know of, at least in the US. You might consider getting some thumb drives for backup of valuable files or a separate hard drive as backup. Even a CD or DVD can store a crap load of pics and documents. I don't see how partition is going to save anything if the hd is wet and ruined.

So, do you collect any native fish for your aquariums? I'm not sure what is native to Thailand but I might find a few and post a bounty on live ones. "Here is a 50$ bill. It goes to the next person who brings me a XXXX in good condition". We used to do that in the auto repair business. "Next person who sells a set of shocks get this 100$ bill, tacked to the corkboard." Guess how long it was before someone needed a new set of shocks? Now, hey, don't blame me ;-) I was just the computer guy.

Don't get me started, we used to call Road Hazard Warranties, "The house that Chuck built" It was a huge house in Palm Beach Gardens. I did a research and RHW's were over 95% pure profit.

If you checkout Fishing The Thai Way 2 thread you will see quite a few of the wild Thai freshwater fish..I also have quite a few pics of the fish in our lake..which includes giant gourami ( and i mean giant including orange/pink ones), pacu ( 3 kilo + ) we have just added 20 small ones which only cost 120 baht which is about £2 in English money, several species of catfish, aligator gar, rudd, roach, golden price carp, tapiapa, and several other species which i have not got a clue what they are...there is one that I love but have not been able to catch one yet to photo....the lake is full of fry so all the fish are breeding..will post the pics later today need to retrieve the pics from photobucket as mentioned previously most of my pics are on my big computor...but i managed to send a few to photobucket before computor broke.

PS...thanks Restart for advice on computor...hope it is the grapics card and not the hard drive, the actual computor wasn't wet it was just dampness in the air...I would hate to think I have lost another 3 years of photos....I do have some on disc not sure what as I have not checked but I always mean to copy my pics once edited but always leave it till the next day which never comes...has they say in Thailand "Sum Nam Na" ( serves yourself right )

Hi Guppyman,

We have many rice fields where we are but they tend to dry up once the rice has been harvested..heard stories that the wild Plakat are more up north...north east ( Issan ) I have never actually looked for them as we also have many snakes here and I'm not to keen on snakes...LOL...there are many Thai betta breeders who go to the local markets but again to date I have never seen any wild Plakat....but there is a big sunday market in Bangkok and they sell everything, all types of fish, birds and animals an amazing place to visit but I don't get there that often as we are 3 hours away from Bangkok. Next time I'm there I will have a good look around and see if I can find any wild types....there is so many breeders selling plakat you can buy a bag of maybe 20-30 fish for 20 baht which is about 40p in english money...you can also get all the other types of bettas but these are a little bit ( and I mean little ) more expensive.

Could be the power supply too.I would check that first. You should be able to place the HDD as a slave in another PC and pull the files from it that way.I have three HDDs in my pc now, lol.

It would be fun for fish around my feet while playing online.
