Default Fish in Cycling with Platties?

This is by no means something I am set on doing. I was just wondering if it would be safe to do a fish in cycle with platties? i don't know how sensative they are and if this would be harmful to them or not. Advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Potentially harmful to any fish used for a cycle. Not a bad fish to use.

I would google Silent cycle and read up on it.

You're still cycling the tank with fish, but it's a lot less stressful to the fish because of the plants. It's called "silent" because the plants consume the ammonia and it is undetectable to us, thus silent.

jrman83, thanks. Like I said, I'm not by any means set on doing this, just wondered if they were hardy enough for it. Thank you!

Pigeonfish, thanks, I'll do that right now. I like your name. I have both a pigeon and a fish, and my fish likes checking out the pige when I take him near the tank. ^_^

Cute >.<

Right now my tank is in the process of a silent cycle. I have a looooooot of plants in it, It's going through a Nitrite Spike, which should go down in about a week or so. I didn't even have a big ammonia source, I just had Eco-complete and non-washed plants and a lot of snails. No fishies. I'm quite surprised but pleased. Then again, all tanks are different. :D

Silent cycle still has fish, the difference is the tank is planted. The cycle will never start until the ammonia source is in the tank - fish.

Ive never cycled a tank with anything but fish. Do partial water changes so the ammonia and nitrites dont get too high.

Mine is silent cycled.I add only a few fish, understock it.And add as many plants as I can.and just keep up with the waterchanges weekly.By far safer for the fish than without the plants.
