Default fish breeding and water chemistry

I have a 72 gallon tank with convict cichlid pairs and they just had there first set of babies and wondering if there is a way to modify water chemistry so they wont breed again. I have heard that a high ph tells them it is time to breed and im wondering if this accurate and if so is there a way to lower so they wont breed again.

72 gallon
cycled tank
PH 7.6

Personally I think if they want to breed they will regardless of what you do to the water.I usually advise against messing with the water chemestry because not only can it stop the breeding but it can also stress the fish or make the tank crash and everything get sick from it.

Personally I would either raise the fry up and sell or remove the eggs before hatching.

Convicts bred under any water condistions, including those at you local fish store. Water chemistry, that would stop them from breeding, would also probably kill them.

Yep, they are the cockroaches of the cichlid world. They will pretty much breed no matter what. Pulling the eggs as stated is the best idea, or you could use the fry as feeders if you have other fish that like tasty live foods. Some fish and shrimp will only breed under certain water conditions. Convicts unfortunately are not one of them.
