For those that have been keeping up with my tank saga, this afternoon my tests show:
0ppm ammonia 0ppm nitrites 5.0ppm nitrates After all the up/downs the past 13 weeks, I think I have finally accomplished a newly cycled tank. Throughout all the ups and downs, 2 little fish have survived massive levels of ammonia, massive levels of nitrites, even both at different times being sucked up through my tube and into the disposal bucket while doing water changes.... these little guys, a zebra danio and a glowlight tetra, just have Hercules strength and determination. Now comes the decision time of what to slowly start stocking. Definitely these two have a home for life. Many years ago, I had Chichlid tanks, asst mollie tanks and a few random other fish, but I am truly thinking this time I'd like to experiment with guppies. I know they are live bearers and I've got worlds of live plant environment for cover. I know to add slowly the amount of fish and probably I'm guessing a total of about 8 female and 2 male is about what I can handle (along with the 2 other survivors). What ratio is a good number to start adding and will I need to consider any kind of bottom feeder ? |

Congrats! Your experience with SafeStart is similar to mine. If your tank has algae, I'd recommend an otocinclus. These guys do a great job clearing algae. I think otos do better in groups, but you might not have the capacity. Enjoy!
