Since beaslbob builds don't use filters, won't beaslbob tanks eventually end up with tons of little particles floating around in the water?
Also doesn't the water turn dark brown over time? Is there some other way to avoid these things or are they just ignored? Last edited by Leopard Gecko : 11-15-2011 at 08:43 PM. |

I would just keep a filter on the tank if your worried about it. Depending on whats in the tanks is how the outcome of looks.

I would use a filter as well, but that's just me. I've never felt safe having a tank with out a filter.
From what I understand though, the little particles sink and become mulm for the plants to eat and the water is kept clean because the plants eat the waste.... I guess the water would stay clear because you would have to top up water that evaporates.... I don't really know, I've never done a Beaslebob build.

I have a 55 g build with a sponge filter and I love it set up like this. 2 months and alls good, my 20l was the test for me and was happy with that. I use the sponge filter for water movement not really filtering and my fish seem to be in heaven. I have a small group of mosquito fish, heterandria formosa(least killifish), 3 dwarf puffers , some ghost shrimp and a crayfish, oh cant forget the 5 oto's. here is a shot of half of the tank.
