Default Emporer 400

Hi,

Do the bio wheels on an Emporer 400 do anything for a fresh water tank?
I have one of those and 2 Aquaclear filters one is a Aquaclear 110 and the other is a 80 i think.. Should I use the Emp and the larger Aquaclear for my 75 gal?

Thanks

I think they do not. I would not spend my money on one of these filters. I would go with the aquaclear filters. You will save lots of money in the long run. You are always buying new filter pads for these and they do not last long.

So the Bio-Wheels do nothing for freshwater tanks? like they dont hold bacteria or anything? and they are only used for Saltwater?

I run an Emperor 400 on my 55 gal and the bio wheels work amazing for freshwater, lots of brown and clear bacteria on my wheels. I use a drop test kit for ammonia and and dont even have 0-1 ppm with 28 fish. They were also used in a saltwater tank by the prior owner so they will still work even if they were used in saltwater before your use! I highly recommend the filter only up to 70 gallon tanks, so I would say yes to using an Aquaclear with it but you might be able to get away with the smaller Aquaclear along with the Emperor 400. if the ammonia or nitrates are too high after using the smaller one use the larger Aquaclear.
my .02

good luck!
