Cool Double Bonus!!

So, last night I was looking through some boxes of old stuff we have stored away, and found a box of my Dad's old aquarium stuff. He gave me his 65g tall aquarium and a bunch of filters, siphons, rocks, etc..... I had forgotten about the extra filters.

Our new 36g came with an Aqueon30, which is for tanks up to 45g. I wanted to get a bigger filter (an Aquaclear 70), but my husband said we'd spent enough money and the one it came with would be fine. When I opened the box of old aquarium stuff, I found a big Aquaclear 300. I googled it, since Aquaclear changed all the numbers on their filters, and low and behold, it's an Aquaclear70!!! We are going to use it and keep the one that came with the tank as back up. (Also found a big canister filter for the 65g!!)

Second good news is I found something that eats planaria!!!! (For those of you who remember my thread on "What eats Planaria?" after the outbreak last week.) African Dwarf Frogs!! I was watching the stupid little planaria swim on the glass this evening, and Ricky (one of the frogs), floated over and ate a couple of the worms off the glass!!! (Apparently they can only see shadows..... well, I don't know HOW he saw those worms, because they are tiny!!! But I'm not going to complain! He can eat as many as he wants!!!) That could explain why Carl (the other frog) is never hungry when I try to feed them. He must be filling up on planaria!

So, for all the discouraging news of a stalled cycle in the 20g and the planaria outbreak and all the shrimp dying off, I've at least got 2 good things to celebrate!!

Great news for you. It helps to get free stuff like that. Helps on the pocket book big time.

A girl in our club was moving to Colorado tonight and could't sell her 55 with stand and fish and ended up giving it to another member tonight.

I expect to move in maybe three years from Memphis to Pueblo CO. I think I'd rather give away my stuff to someone who really wanted/needed it than sell it for pennys on the dollar. I'm thinking I'll give away all the fish and just move the gear so I can ReStart all over again in Pueblo!

Cool deal on the find though. One of the lfs had a yard sale thing out front of their store and a buch of folks brought out all their extra stuff. I got three air pumps (big ones) tubing, air stones and some other crap for 10 bucks. Just general yard sales might produce some good deals too.
