Default DIY co2 questions.

I have recently added a diy co2 system. I'm using a 2-liter bottle for the yeast (2 1/4 cups water, 2 cups sugar, 1/4 gram of yeast), about 7.6cm (3in) of airline to a homemade bubble counter (syringe with a one way valve shoved into the big end) then about 76cm (2.5ft) of line to an airstone. Any suggestions on how to improve this is greatly appreciated.

get rid of the airstone and put the airline into your intake of your filter, it works so much better than an airstone

Into the intake? I have a HOB filter. Could I just put it in the top under the waterline, and will the media and such pull the co2 out?

idk about putting it in the top but have it go into the impellor, the impellor chops it up then it gets stuck in the filter media, leaving much time to dissolve

I'd say use a glass diffuser but with the syringe bubble counter, it might build up too much pressure as cause a leak.

I had a glass diffuser with my DIY bubble counter. My glass diffuser was the one from fosters and smith.I would look up aquatic magic on aquabid and see if he sells any nanos.Email him and explain the DIY bubble counter and see what he says about it.

All depends on the way it is sealed. The bottles you can seal good. I have no experience with the syringe DIY method so I can't comment on it. I use nothing but nano's on all my CO2 setups.

James, the syringe makes a great seal with the check valve. If you shove it in hard enough, you wont be pulling them apart soon, lol. One thing I found with them is,if the pressure builds up too much one of the hoses will come off, usually the top on the syringe. This is a great safety thing as it keeps potential bottle busting to a minimum.

The seal in the syringe is complete. And mostly permanent. I had to run it under hot water to get the check valve in. As for a diffuser I had planned on making a reactor but I also plan on rebuilding the whole thing soon. I've used cheap parts just to see if I could build it, and to see how much the Ph drop will be. Right now I have a small stream of bubbles that are pretty fine so I think it is dissolving rather well.I'm just the carbonic acid will day everything up in short order I'm just testing fit and function.

Sounds kewl! I'll have to check into this then. I'll check the DIY section and see if one is posted.
