cycling quarantine tank.
I have a cycled system ready to add another fish or two. I have everything needed to set up a qt. I have a spare filter and have added it on to my cycled tank. my question is this: how long should that filter run before it has enough bacteria established to switch it to the qt for instant cycle? Or would it be better to leave the new filter on the cycled tank, and switch the original filter to the qt? Any suggestions? Thanks!

It only takes a couple of weeks for the new filter to get enough bacteria when run on an established tank, So if it has been that long it should be ready to go.

Agreed with Susan. When the QT tank isn't in use, keep the QT filter running on the normal tank to keep the bacteria alive and healthy, then when it's needed, switch the QT filter onto the QT tank. :D
