Default a couple quick questions

so, my dream fish tank is to have an oscar and a jack dempsey together in one tank. i have a 60 gallon tank that has a 7 1/2 inch sailfin pleco, a 3 inch yellow lab, a 5 inch jack dempsey and i have a ten gallon tank setup down stairs with my oscar in it. my oscar has been in that tank for about a month or two. he is almost 3 inches and i wanted to know when i can get him out of that super small tank! if its too soon my very territorial fish will, well... yeah. and im on my 3rd oscar because of over feeding (my brother thought it would be cool to throw 60 feeders/minnows into the tank...) and the 2nd one was because of the YL and JD picking on him.

i have a question about my pleco, i believe this is stress related? or fungi... but he has this weird white-ish coating on him that dissapears while he moves around the tank, but while he rests it comes back. everytime. he is very active. always swimming around. i havent really seen him eat before but ive seen him suck on sinking carnivore pellets and algae pellets, but never take bites from them. they dissapear so one of my fish are getting to them.

and my other question is how should i properly introduce my oscar to the tank when he is ready? should i take out 50% of the water and rearrange everything in the tank, put the oscar in then fill it back up? thats the best way i can think of

so those are my "quick" questions haha. thank you for any advice and help, it is appreciated greatly. all of my fish look healthy but i have no knowledge whatsoever about diseases. again. thank you

Hmm... Well, for the pleco, it sounds like it could be a fungus of some sort. That's usually what whitish coating means. I don't know what would cause it to disappear while he's swimming, though.

Introducing the oscar should be OK as long as you rearrange the tank. I've never heard of taking out half the water, but I'm no expert.

Sorry I can't answer your questions very well! I saw that this thread was a few days old, so maybe my post will bump it up so that someone more knowledgeable can see it. Good luck!

I actually read of a neat trick that someone did while doing something similar.

They took a 10g tank and arranged it to where it was in the larger tank. Sort of how the specimen containers would be. The Oscar was placed in the bare 10g. Of course everyone was safe since he couldn't get them and vise versa. After things were settled down, the Oscar was turned loose and all was well.

wait so you mean that they set up the 10 gallon upside down in the bottom of the tank? this would take a while wouldnt it? i used to have an oscar that was killed by my other fish and he lived in there for almost a month. i really dont want an upside down ten gallon in my tank for a month. or longer

One Oscar needs a 55g, one Jack Dempsy needs a 55g and a Yellow Lab needs a 35g.... I'd leave the Jack Dempsy and the Lab in the 60g and get a 55g - 75g for the Oscar. It's not going to work.... you're going to have fish that get way to big in one 60g tank... plus, Oscars need double filtration... super messy fish.

No. The tank was right side up and level with the big tank. Are you familiar with the specimen containers that hang on the tank? It was a set up like that. The 10g was on the inside.

I had a friend who had to put her oscar in a 120 because how big he was.If they get full sized they are too big for a 55,as hers could hardly turn around in it.Plus as we all know the bigger the better.
