Just got home from PetCo where I went to just get one thing, a live-bearer hatchery for the guppies I just put in my newly cycled tank yesterday. While there made the mistake of wandering around the backside of one of the isles and they had a 29 gal kit tank (only one left in the store) marked down to $29 dollars because they are not going to carry that line of tanks any longer.
I figured if they were going to try to give it away at that price, it might as well go home with me. It came with a fluorescent lighted hood, an aqueon filter, a heater, a dip net and jar of fish flakes. My 10 gal tank just cycled over the weekend and water test just now are great, ammonia 0ppm, nitrites 0ppm and nitrates less than 5.0ppm with 6 little inch long fish in it right now. I plan on this weekend tearing the 10gal down, moving the gravel + more new gravel into the new tank, moving my existing Aqua Clear filter with media to the new tank, then transferring the water to the new tank. This will still mean I'll have to add almost 20 more fresh gallons to the new tank. Is doing this going to throw my cycle off to where It will have to start all over, or anything else I may need to consider before jumping into this...... Thanks, Rick Last edited by rico334 : 12-27-2011 at 04:50 PM. |

Theres not much use in moving the existing water as bacteria doesnt live in the water column.

You might want to consider continuing your cycling process for another week maximum after transferring to the 29 gallon to ensure you have enough BB to sustain the bio load of a 29 gallon tank opposed to only having enough BB for a ten gallon aquarium.
Congrats on finding a steal of a deal on the tank.

congrats on new tank sounds like a deal.
but running a week might not be a bad idea. i wouldnt add any new fish right away or you might have a minicycle which wont be to bad if you test and change water as necessary.
