I have two salt and pepper corys and since they are schooling fish I got another Cory. But this new one is an emerald green Cory. Was that a mistake? Will they still school together and get along?

I have 6 Peppered Corys in a 20G tank and they school all the time. Peppered Corys tend to climb plants, Geen ones don't. I have several Species of Corys and they won't school with each other. It is best to keep at least 5 of the same species together to form a school.

Corydoras species can be very different. They will get along, but may not hang together.

My yoyo loach and peppered cory sometimes hang out together. I think they will get along fine.

The answer to this question seems to vary widely between keepers of cories - I suspect that it will all depend on the behavior of your individual fish. I have heard some people tell stories about their cories will school with other similar-looking species: pandas with salt and pepper, etc. I have also heard of cories schooling with otocinclus. It probably just comes down to how similar your species look, or how poor your cories' vision is. ;) There is one big question here though, do you know if your cory is a "salt and pepper" (corydoras habrosus) or simply a "peppered" (corydoras paleatus) cory? I have noted that these two are often cross-named. If it is corydoras paleatus, then it should grow to be about the same size as your emerald. If it is a true "salt and pepper," or corydoras habrosus, then it will not grow to be the same size as your emerald will. Corydoras habrosus is a dwarf species ~1", while emerald cories can grow upwards of 3 inches.

Corydoras are very social and peaceful. You need to keep a minimum of five in a tank, so they feel comfortable. They don't necessarily have to be the same species though. Some fishkeepers prefer all the same kind and that's fine, but I've kept them for several years in large tanks and some of the tanks have four or five different species and they mix with one another very well. Actually, Corys are shoaling fish, not schooling fish. Corys will forage for food in groups, but their movements are individual. Watch a true schooling fish like Tetras. They stay in groups during the day for protection and when one moves, they all mimic that move. B

Not entirely true....."some" Cories will stay together, but not all. Just depends on the species you get.
