I have a 2.5 gallon tank but I am using a filter that works with tanks up to 6.6 gallons, and I am wondering if this filter will work with a 10 gallon tank or should I get a bigger filter? I am hoping to expand my aquarium a little and really wish I could find a 5 gallon or 6 gallon plain aquarium, not with all the starter kit accessories, so any help on this issue is appreciated

You would need a bigger filter for a 10 gallon. It would work ok on a 5

Larger filter as the lady above stated. I tend to go the extra mile and at least get a filter meant for 3x the amount of the tank. You can never have too good of a filter in my opinion, it's just a problem if the filter is so strong that your fish are flying around.

you would definetly need a bigger filter for a ten gallon and i dont know about your city but in vegas Petco has been having this $1.00 per gallon sale on all their fish tanks.. so if thats the case you could get a plain 5 gallon for $5.00+ tax,.. pretty unbeatable lol

You'd be much better off getting a 20g tank.

You need to look into a bigger tank than a ten.Tens are better suited for quarantine tanks, and leave you with little options when selecting fish, and you would eventually have to upgrade before long anyhow.
You should get a filter rated for the size of your tank or larger, never smaller. The water turnover rate is just to little to do much good.

well my main issue is I am at school and can't really have too big of a tank right now, I do plan on upgrading to a 20 or bigger later on but as for right now I am kind of space starved so I am trying to keep it smaller but still have a good looking tank at the same time, I have been looking at petco and they don't sell a 5 gallon tank that I have seen

If you are at school, and have difficulty with money, I suggest you wait till you end up living in a larger apartment (in the event you are in a dorm and will eventually move out of those at some point). Thing about fish keeping if you are serious about them, is that you'll always be wanting a bigger one that can house the fish you want. Meaning, if you buy a 10 gallon just to fit the here and now, and then find a new opportunity to buy a larger one at a different place, then you might end up with a 10, and then a 30 gallon, etc. Which means you just wasted money on extra tanks in the end.
But if you got money to toss around, then you can just buy the 10 and wait to buy another one later. It is recommended that you buy the biggest one you'll ever want from the start, or you'll regret it later. |
