Default Can you remove the heater knob.

I have an Aqueon submersible water heater. With the knob turned all the way down to the – stop, I still can't get the temperature below 80 F as measured by 2 different thermometers. Is it possible to remove the adjustment knob and then re-install it so I can set the heater to a lower temperature? Yes, my house is air-conditioned.

Just unplug the heater and then check the temp. This time of year even with ac the lights on the tank can keep the temps holding where its at.

I unplug my heaters all summer because of this, and will still run 79 to 80.

I would also unplug it.If its that hot,it could be bad.Wait until it cools down and see if it warms the water to the temp you need.Dont take it apart, thats just asking for malfunctions and could result in the loss of your fish.

Thanks

I just went and unplugged the heater. I'll give it a day or 2 to see what happens.

That's kinda' funny... I'm having the opposite problem - I have a 200 Watt heater on a 36g tank, and I turned the heater up full blast (to help cycle the tank faster) and the most it will go to is 83-84 degrees.... weird because my 150 Watt heater in the 20g was at 86 for the cycle and could still go higher if I turned the knob up... Once the cycle is done I'm going to turn the 200W heater back down to 79 -80, but I just find it odd that 83/84 is the max it will heat to...... maybe our air conditioning is throwing it off....

Looks like everyone was right. The heater has been unplugged for a couple of days now and the tank temperature is still the same. It's 74-75 F in the house and 80-81 F in the tank. I know the lights do generate some heat but I would never have guessed they would keep the tank that warm.
