Hello everyone,
I happen to have some bogwood in my 200 lt tank, and recently bought some java fern and java moss, which I attached to my bogwood, one for each piece of bogwood. What puzzled me was the smell of the wood when I took it out to attach the moss and the fern; the wood smelled really bad. Is that even normal ? Because the fish are allright with it so far (over a year) and they even bite on it a lot when it gets little algae hairs and feed on it. Shoud I just leave it ? Or somehow clean the wood every now and then, I mean submerse in chlorine or something ? ![]()

The wood reeks because it is rotting. Bogwood is great for tanks, as is root wood, because the logs are very resistant to mold and rotting, compared to softer woods like pine branches and the like. I've got some bogwood in my 29 gallon and the stuff reeks out of water, but underwater it's a pleasure to behold, and my moss loves the stuff.
