I thought I had taken out all of my shrimp from my 30G before placing them in a 10G quarantine and applying Mardel Coppersafe to the 30G to treat a recent Ich outbreak. Today, when feeding my fish, I noticed a shrimp going crazy (as they often do during feeding time) and she was stained blue from the medication. It's aesthetically cool but morally troubling. I'm acclimating her for the 10G right now but I'm curious if she's going to make it. I treated the tank yesterday afternoon so she's been exposed to it for 30 hours or so. Is she a goner or is the staining a good sign, perhaps that her exoskeleton absorbed the medicine and internally she'll be okay?

Is it possible to "rinse" her? Maybe put her in container of tank water (from the quarantine tank) and let her run around in that for an hour or so... maybe some of the colouring will come off?
I'd hope that the exoskeleton absorbed it.... but I guess time will tell. (I'd have thought she would have died by now, seeing as everyone says copper is so highly toxic!) Sorry about the ich outbreak by the way! Did you figure out which fish started it?

Actually I just put her in the 10G and the blue tint seems to have gone away, I'm thinking she just appeared blue while in the water containing the medicine and hopefully will be fine now but we will see.
Concerning the Ich, I'm assuming it came with one of the Cardinals since the one shows the worst signs, but who knows. Could have been on one of the Barbs and been dormant or gone unnoticed. I bought the Cardinals about 2 weeks ago so the timimg seems about right. Two of my Barbs are flashing frequently but the infected Cardinals seem to be doing relatively well so I am being optimistic and hoping for no deaths.

That's good - about the shrimp I mean -
So, it takes Ick about 2 weeks to show after bringing home infected fish? (I didn't know that. Good to know.)

Oh no, don't quote me on that. I'm not entirely sure how long it takes Ich to become visible in the tank and am sure it varies quite a lot. It's life cycle is about 7-10 days at the temperature I had them at I believe...which seems to point towards the Cardinals (bought them a couple weeks ago with some parasites on them, they fall off in the tank a couple days in, replicate, then attack the fish which show symptoms over a week later). Thinking about it, I also purchased two moss balls from Petsmart that had other fish in the tank about 10 days ago as well. That could have started it as well, I need to stop going to that place lol.

I don't think it was the moss balls. Ich won't attach to a healthy fish, but given a temp change or anything else that can stress out a fish, ich can become full force.
One little known fact is that a lot of times ich is present in tap water. And depending on how well the water dept treats the water to how well it is destroyed before reaching your tap.

Ich can show 1 day out from the fish store. The important part is catching. I spend a few minutes a day at each one of my tanks observing my fish. Mostly, because that is the reason I bought them in the first place. Second is to check the condition of their health. Knowing which fish are harder to see it and the places it normally becomes visible are key parts of it. Early detection makes it a very easy thing to defeat. days vs weeks/months.
