Okay so Im moving soon and when I move I will get rid of most of my ''Ornamental fish'' and I will be setting up a complete Biotope Aquarium, But here's the catch Im doing It all completely local, and as some of you may already know Im not in the USA, Im in Brazil specifically a small town called Piracanjuba (In the indigenous Tupi Language means Fish with a yellow head) In the state of Goias smack dab in the middle of the country, and this tank will be around 30g, and what I plan on doing is gathering every thing locally, I have been absent on this forum but that's because of school and doing research on fish of the area and what not, but if your still alive after this long read then here comes my question: Do any of you have any Local Biotope Aquariums ? and I don't want Pics I NEED them, Also do any of you use any minnow traps for capturing fish ? What do you guys use as bait ? I will set up a journal to document my progress.

My friend has a native species tank, I'll see if I can get pictures.
As long as you continue to do your research, there's very little that can go wrong. I suggest starting off with one native species preferably the one you know most about and try to mimic their original environment. Using sand and dirt from their place of origin will be ideal. You can bring ice coolers and fill them up with the sand, dirt and water. I know my friend uses nets from a boat to catch his fish, but I'm not exactly sure how his technique works. Always make sure it is legal to take whatever species you want and make sure it is from a place you can take them from. I think 30 gallons will be too small for any fish caught from the wild. (even if they fit in the tank) I suggest getting a 75 gallon or larger that way the fish will still feel like they're home. I wish you luck, native species tanks are definitely some of the most interesting. You're gonna love working on this tank.

Did I mention This will be a wild caught F0 Tetras Only tank, In my research I have found at least in one weekends work 10 different species, all shoaling, so a 30g will cut it, this isn't about how many I can put in it, I already know how many I just want to know stuff like substrate issues, and lighting In biotope tanks.
