Default Bio Wheel filter questions

I currently have a Penguin 150 in my 28 gallon aquarium. The aquarium is still cycling. Once it is finished, I would like to get a 5 gallon aquarium for a betta.

Here is what I am thinking... I will buy a Penguin 350 for the 28 gallon and move the 150 to the 5 gallon. I would probably have to move the biowheel with bacteria on it (currently in 150) to replace one of the wheels in the 350 so I dont have to recycle the big tank.

Also... I will probably want some sort of flow deflector for the betta tank... any suggestions?

The best way would be to run both the filters on the 28g for two weeks than move the 150 over to the 5g, if there is room for both. If not than if the bio wheels are the same size your plan may be okay.

That was the other thing I was thinking.. get 2 100's and put one on my 28 so I would have a 150 and 100 on that, then put the other 100 on the 5 gallon.

I like this idea best in at least one regard. I used to run only one filter on each tank until I got my 55g "combo setup". I did not want to use just the big hob and bought a Cascade 1000 for it, the same filter I use on my 60g tall. Once I got the Cascade, I just used it in addition to the hob.

I like CRYSTAL clear water all the time and these two filters did just that. So I kept them both running. I also got a hob rated for 30 gallons and put it on my 60g tall in addition to the cannister. Same outcome, crystal clear water. Plus, I now have backups for both tanks. Good deal all around.

Moving a used filter over to a cycling tank worked great for me, although all I did was take the filter pad out of a used one and put it into the new filter. Along with the "fishless ammonia" addition cycle technique, I was able to get a complete cycle in just under three weeks on three tanks I used this technique.

Well, I gotta go do my weekly wc's, especially as I am going to be gone for three days. (fish will love me when I get back!)
