Default Bamboo hollowed out for hides?

Wanted to ask you guys your opinion on this.A neighbor has some golden bamboo growing in his yard and I snatched a piece. Its hollowed out now and plenty big enough for the macs to get in and go through.Problem is,I am not sure itll be ok.Ive seen online people use them for clown loaches,so I think itll be ok as long as I boil it,but these fish mean too much for me to accidentally kill em.

Thoughts?

I don't know... if you've seen people on this forum do it, then it should be ok. I just know that I've seen some people put live bamboo into their tanks as plants and they end up getting all kinds of comments from people saying that the bamboo will rot.

I guess if it's already dead and won't rot, it should work right?

I'd say dry it out to harden it and it will be fine. Rotting is due to bamboo not being fully aquatic and LFS' sell it as an aquatic plant, non-aquatic plants fully submerged will rot. You can buy bamboo tunnels in most pet stores for use with reptiles, cleaned and scrubbed they are OK for fish tanks.
