Default Awesomness... new tank...

Wow.. really wow, i never thought the wife would let me break the 30 gal mark... but tonight, ( i think it was because of the very expensive camera i surprised her with) she finally let me measure out the area of this awkward passthrough thingy that the little one and i have said since the house was bought would be perfect for a fish tank... and VIOLA! i 'just happened' to find a 55 gal that fit perfectly... AND SHE SAID OK!!! I was BEYOND SHOCKED! Pics to come!

Thanks gents! Yeah i got her a nice camera that was about 4 times the cost of the tank... (and i had to by the tank myself too!) but the big part was the permission!) Yeah i get to keep the 30 and the 20 gal planted but the 10 gal has to go to work... which is awesome too... all in all well worth the deal!

Yea thats AWESOME, that spot was purposely built there for a tank, I always wanted a tank as a room divider just our current home doesnt really have a spot.
This should come out real nice , keep us updated with pics

A colleague of mine has a similar set up to that and it is the perfect finish to the room. If you decorate it right and put the right fish in it, it will look really good. Seems you found the right size tank that fits in there with no problem. He had to have the tank made according to the size of the space. Just a word of caution though, make sure the surface the tank will stand on is level and smooth, otherwise it will crack from the weight of the water. Good luck.

congrats on the new tank!I myself am getting a 90gal with PERMISSION from my mom and we're putting it in the family room where i wanted it in the first place.(score!) And also its gonna be OUR project.

Speaking of which ask her if she wants to help decorate and help plant where the plants go and ask her what type of fish she wants and maybe come to a compromise after all she's letting you keep it and get it.

good luck show us progress and i'll show you ours!

I hope you have room in your other tanks for the Swords. One Ozelot or one Amazon will be fine for that tank and even then they will eventually start to crowd it. I had two of them in my 125g that started to crowd and shade the bottom too much - leaves were over 24" long. Ozelot will not grow as fast or as big, but it is not far behind. I would go with just one Ozelot...you'll be much more happier in the long run and won't have to pull it up later. Once you get one of those in there and a year later you need to pull it up it will/can cause a quite a mess in the tank.

Here is a pic of one of the Amazons that was in my 125g before it really started to get big.

DONE!

Still a little cloudy but all in time..
This would be considered the 'front' from the kitchen view

And this one from the living room.

Not sure how I feel about a hob filter for the living room view. I just think it takes away from the tank like that. I have my tank have its back against a wall so that isn't an issue for me. It just seems distracting.
