I have recently gotten a small aquarium for my bedroom. A 15 gallon. My father has had many tanks before all around 150 gallons or more. I have just noticed my 2 Clown Loaches with a pretty bad case of Ich. Ive read all over people saying dont use medications bought from the store and ive heard people say to use it but use less. Ive heard dont use heat and salt nad ive heard use heat and salt. Im slowing raising the temperature. It is at about 84 right now and i have added my first dose of medication called, "Wardley Essentials Ick Away". Is it ok to turn the temperature up and to add this medication. It says: Use 1 teaspoon (5ml) for every 10gallons. If used as recommended it does not buyld up appreciably in treated systems, but a 50% water change 24 hours after treatment is recommended. For post parasites one treatment will provide adequate control. For treatment of (ick) repeat regimine once every three days for three treatments.
Need Help dont want my fish to die..... :( Its about 1:39am my tiem and i gave them their first dose at about 6 pm. I only gave them the 5ml and not the other half of it. |

Keep raising the temp to about 89-90. Hold it there at least 3 days beyond the last sign. Most don't recommend medicated and high temp however, but I did it. I suggest you add a powerhead or drop your water level down so the return water from your filter is crashing into your tank. This will help oxygenate the water, as medication and high heat tend to deplete oxygen.
Also, keep doing half doses since you have loaches. Loaches are scaless and you shouldn't use full doses with scaless fish, but you have to medicate for twice as long. Hope everything works out for you. |

I lost 1 fish over night. 1 of the clown loaches. The other seems to be doing fine...last night it looks as if he was trying to get out of the tank or gsaping for air at the top. Should i put him into a different tank?

Im pretty sure the tank is too small for the fish you have. But yes raise the temp slowly and medicate, half dose twice as long. The fish gasping is for lack of oxygen. With higher temps, the dissolved oxygen is very sparce, and the medication will deplete it as well. Therefore since you have to raise the temp to treat i suggest you add an airstone to help oxygenate the water.

![]() I know your fish are probably pretty small now if you got them very young, but you have six fish in a ten gallon aquarium that will all grow up to between 6" to 12" !!! Have you been checking your water chemistry (ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate with a liquid test kit)? You may have a much bigger problem than ich if your tank hasn't cycled yet. |

I'm sorry but none of those fish are good for the size tank you have. If they survive treatment you need to look into a much bigger tank or re-home the fish. There are lots of nice fish you can have in a 15 gallon but they must be chosen carefully.
For now concentrate on treating the fish you have. Is the tank setup for less than a couple of months? |
