I do have pet fish, but I have recently decided to get a pet turtle (yay). A baby Reeves turtle to be exact. I've been doing A LOT of research on them and learned that these guys arent very good swimmers, exp as babies and only require about 2" of water.
My problem is that i have a 30 gallon tank that is about 18" high and it is on top of a tall dresser and I am short :(. i can barely reach the top of the tank and would have a very difficult time reaching turtle at the bottom of the tank. I was thinking of putting Styrofoam boards on the bottom to get the water higher up but still keeping the water level down. What do you guys think about that? Is there anything else I could use thats light weight but bulky? I dont want to put in 100lbs of gravel or anything and it needs to be temporary since they need up to 8 - 12 inches of water after they grow up a bit :( its not easy being small (p.s. the dresser is the only place i currently have to put the tank! trust me I've tried movign it)

by far the best solution would be to get a 30 gallon long.. trade with someone?
Otherwise, styrofoam wouldnt be a good thing.. in water, it will degrade and fall apart. something better would be some metal eggcrate stacked on top of eachother.. or some rocks stacked up.. |

The foam insulation from Home Depot has been used in making backgrounds. Also I use styrofoam for my boys to nest under. It would work.Never heard of it falling apart in water, its one of the worst pollutants in lakes.

i saw another member on here make a retaining wall for his fish tank out of styrofoam, thats what originally got me thinking that I could possibly use it to raise the water. Did you treat the styrofoam with anything before you put it in the tank? certain type of paints or something?
I'm hoping to get my turtle (its name shall be Baby Bowzer) sometime next week and want to have it set up by then.
