Question 20 gallon cichlid tank

i put this thread into the general freshwater forum because i want either convicts (south american) or yellow lab (african) so im stuck in the middle.

so i want to put either a breeding pair of convicts or a breeding trio of yellow labs into my 20 gallon tank that is empty.

which would work best?

BTW if you are gonna suggest getting a different type of cichlid they have to be from petsmart or petco. (i cant get fish shipped..parents)

THANKS JOMA

What ph is your water out of the tap? Have you researched what they require?

yes i know they have to have a higher ph and all there care requirements, i just dont know what fish would fit in a 20 gallon. i have read in many many places that a pair of convicts (i think s.american) would fit in a 20 gallon.

Personally I far prefer Yellow Labs to Convicts, though I do have both. In the case of a 20 I would likely just go for the convicts, however beware after if you remove fry - the male may become aggressive to the point of killing the female and with only a 20 gallon tank there is little room to escape him.

Never tried it, but I don't believe it would be a problem. I've kept single convicts with other mixed cichlids (african and s/c american) successfully.
