Default in the sump tank

just wondering and tips or tricks peoples have for their sump tanks? What are some good things to have in them? I am planning to have protien skimmer, mango plants, heater when my tank is built. any other good sugestions? Its for a reef system

My sump is basically another tank. It's a 90 gallon perfect square. No skimmer or anything like that. It houses 14 cleaner shrimp, 2 purple lobsters, approx 5 or so emerald crabs, misc hermits and snails. I've got pretty much the entire tank filled with macro algae and about 40-50 lbs of live rock, with about 40 lbs of live sand. She works like a charm


Also let me add if you already have a skimmer you might as well add it on. The more equipment to clean the water the better.
