im getting really annoyed now. one min im going with overflow box and the next people and shops are saying dont go with overflow they are too much hassle.
bring your tank down to us and we will drill you 3 holes. i have a 7ft tank that took 4 people to bring in my house and had to remove the window to get it in. so they can go to hell if they think im bringing the tank down to them to put holes in it. i have no choice to stick with overflow box. im getting told i need a minimum of 5000 lph (thats the highest i can see on ebay) so whats the comfatable overflow box i should go for. i think my tank is 1100 litres but some say its 900l. the tank is 6ft by 2.6 by 2ft its on a display cabinet with hood so not shure where i would have to put the overflow box as the hole for piping and wires are at the back. the only place i can put a over flow box is on the side. also what water pump return pump should i go for. my dad might be giving me his pond pump but not shure how many litres it does. so a basic awnser for me would be overflow box for 7ft tank return pump water pump to work nice with the overflow box. unless someone lives close to nottingham and is a profesional aquarium driller that will accept £100 to come and drill my tank. thanks again guys |

If my calculations are correct for your measurements you have yourself a 230 gallon tank (approx 870 liters).
An approx overflow box you will want will be able to take 5 times your tank volume per hour. ex your pump needs to cycle your entire tank 5 times per hour. So if your tank is 230 gallons 230x5 = 1150 gallons per hour needs to be done (4,353 liters ?) To accomplish this task you will also want a pump that will do a bit more then that. Maybe a 1500 GPH pump will do the job you want it to do. Just remember the overflow box will need to keep up with the pump or else you will have too much water in, not enough out!

it depends on the overflow, you may need to cut a small area out for the overflow but its pretty simple if you have a circular saw handy. I am unsure what they mean about bracing however i would go with 100m just because its a bigger number :D.
Also can you explain a little bit to me about how you have the beast setup ? For refrence you should take a look at my video at GetITCdot's Waterchange System [With Pics] to see how i have my system setup (plumping and stuff)

my tank is in the living room against a wall and the sump will be behind the tank in another room so the plumbilling will come from behind the tank.

I would make dual overflows with PVC pipe.

Just an idea. I have a friend that had a 240gal. tank that was not drilled. And this is what he used until he had that tank drilled.
CPR CS202 SIPHON AQUARIUM OVERFLOW BOX by CPR Aquatic - AquaCave He used this over flow down to a 75gal sump that was in the next room like your setup will be and for a return pump he used a Mag18 with no problems. I would go with a Mag24. I like the cpr overflows because of the small intank foot print.

If I had the option of Drilled Holes and an Overflow box I would pick the Drilled Holes everytime.

I agree but not everybody has that option. Sometimes you have to work with what you have. This is not like a 55gal tank that you can throw in the back seat of your car. One thing I have learned in this hobby is "planning is everything". I would tell anybody that is thinking of starting a tank to take a piece of paper and a pencil and write down every feature of your setup, because there is nothing more upsetting then getting halfway through your new project and have to change directions. A upgrade is one thing but a makeover is a fish of another color.
