Default Chemistry of Test Kits

Hi everyone,

I am a chemistry PhD student and I am currently involved in a project around aquariums. I was just wondering if anyone could provide me with some literature as to how the test kits work, i.e. the reactions that provide the observed colour changes. I have found the Nessler and Salicylate methods for ammonia analysis and several pH indicators but I am struggling to find literature with regards to nitrate, nitrite, hardness etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Craig

Maybe try a pool forum for hardness or alkalinity... please post your information here for all tests.
