I currently own a 5 gallon odd shaped tank that is housing my betta and 3 snails. I have a collection of amazon swords, wisteria, and some ferns that are very small, and I know will get big, hoping to move them to my larger tanks once my parrot fish are gone.
Is there anything special I should know about? I just started the plant interest, so I know about the nutrients and I got flourish or whatever it is called to supplement it. Since it is 5 gallons, would a 25w bulb work? I have to wait to upgrade to a 10, so I'm trying to go around some corners lol. ![]() |

For a substrate i use 1" peat moss,1" play sand,1" pc select (or gravel) in layers.
Amazon swords will soon completely fill up any 5g tank. Even just 1 in a 10g can be too much at times. I do not use any added nutrients and for a 10g i use a couple of 15w spiral compact flourescent 6500k bulbs. If your current light is a 25w incandescent, that would probably work for a 5g. Glad to see you are getting plants. they make the tank not only "Pretty" but also much easier to maintain. my .02
