I have a 29gal standard tank with a 30" Coralife dual T5 LIGHT.That would be 36watts/29gal = 1.3 watts per gal. Now is this low light or medium light? Thanks

I believe it would be considered low light.

T5 doesnt exactly work properly with the WPG rules.
You would be far closer to 2wpg, leaning towards medium lighting. Also need to factor in the depth of your tank ![]()

Do you have the model number? Are the bulbs the full length? Do you know if this is T5HO?

The bulbs are approx. 28", one is a 6700K and the other is a actinic. The tank is 18'' deep.
And the bulbs are NO. |

You'll want to get rid of the actinic. Anything above 10,000K on the Kelvin scale (I believe actinic is 12kK or 16kK) showcases colors in fish, but does little to provide useable light for photosynthesis in freshwater plants. Actinic light is more for coral reef tanks.
28" 2xT5NO lighting would put you in the low-medium light range. Do you know if the ballast in the fixture can handle HO? Also, do the bulbs have reflectors? If so, are they independent reflectors? (i.e., one reflector per bulb, not one for both).

Thanks for the replies. I thought that two 6700K's would be better ( isn't the actinic for saltwater, mainly ). What about 1 6700 and 1 10,00K. Single reflector and I'm not sure if the ballast / starter could handle HO's. It's built into the light.
